2013 Annual Review
2013 was a strong year for the HSS Hire Group. We grew our revenue, EBITDA and return on assets both organically and through acquisition.
Our performance during the year exceeded market growth estimates and was achieved through an unwavering focus on the five platforms of our strategic plan and supported by a diverse customer base that operates across a broad range of resilient markets.
We welcomed UK Platforms, MTS Ireland and TecServ to the Group and opened the HSS Academy as well as widening the breadth of services we provide in order to deliver our customer promise of Safety, Value, Availability and Support.
It has been a year of considerable achievement and we are proud to share our accomplishments here.
Financial Highlights 2013
We achieved strong organic growth across all customer groups, product ranges, geographies and services. This underlying core growth was complemented by the acquisition of several specialist businesses, which improved the range of products and services we offer our customers.
Across all of our businesses we continued to invest in our equipment fleet, in the capability of our operating network and in the infrastructure and systems which underpin our business.
Business Unit Reviews
HSS Hire Group operates as a number of business units: HSS Hire, the core business, which supplies tools and equipment; UK Platforms, specialist powered access provider; ABird, power solutions business; HSS Training, expert Health and Safety training provider; Reintec, cleaning equipment services.
In 2013 we reported strong growth across all business units. We invested in our equipment fleets, distribution networks and systems and technology. We also continued to invest in, and improve, the services and ways to transact that we offer as part of the ‘support’ element of our customer promise.
Our people are essential to the success of our business and we are committed to helping them reach their full potential.
During 2013 we opened the HSS Academy, providing residential courses in all aspects of customer service, selling and product knowledge to all new colleagues joining HSS and supplementary skills or refresher training to many of our existing colleague base. This investment – unique in our industry – is the next step in our ongoing commitment to colleague Learning and Development.
We also continued to deliver a comprehensive programme of learning and development including apprenticeships, leadership support and ongoing safety, technical and behavioural training.
